Larry Wilmore might be paying for a joke he did at this year’s White House Correspondents Dinner. According to several reports the Nightly Show host is no longer welcomed on CNN, and has since been banned. The reported ban is expected to be due Larry’s jokes about CNN and anchor Dom Lemon during his WHCD appearance.
At the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, Larry Wilmore roasted everyone in the press—particularly CNN. “In fact, the room was very uncomfortable because Wilmore kept pressing the issue, which is exactly what he’s supposed to do! He’s a comic!” exclaimed Cenk Uygur, host of The Young Turks…. One of Wilmore’s sharpest zingers was directed at Don Lemon—who flipped the comic the bird when cameras cut to his reaction. But Lemon actually took the joke in stride, took pictures with Wilmore later on in the evening and even invited Wilmore to be a guest on CNN. On the other hand, Mediaite reported, “that Wilmore was scheduled to appear on Lemon’s show the evening of Wednesday, May 4, a few days after the speech. But that appearance was abruptly canceled by a CNN producer shortly beforehand under the guise of needing to cover ‘politics’ and to focus on the ‘Indiana primary’ (which had ended more than 24 hours earlier). Wilmore was never rescheduled.” “I know a thing or two about cable news … I know that they literally have blacklists,” said Uygur.
