Popular band The Roots (of The Tonight Show) has been kicking off a series of outdoor festivals called the Roots Picnic in their home base of Philadelphia. Now as a way to give New Yorkers a chance to experience their live event they are taking things to the Big Apple. A line-up of performers which includes Jerrod Carmichael, and Neal Brennan has been announced for the 2-day event in October. As a way to help get the word out; Chris Rock has lent his voice for the shows promo video (below).
D’Angelo, John Mayer, Wu-Tang Clan, David Byrne and Nile Rodgers will headline. It’s official: the Roots Picnic is expanding to New York City. The long-running festival, held for the last nine years in the band’s hometown of Philadelphia, will debut its inaugural NYC edition October 1 and 2 in Manhattan’s Bryant Park. David Byrne & The Roots Open Rock Hall 2016 With David Bowie Tribute The event is being produced by Live Nation and Maverick in partnership with the Bryant Park Corporation and will be curated entirely by the Roots, with headliners that reflect the group’s extensive rolodex and penchant for the unexpected.
